Employees at a dealership in suburban Cincinnati said they were flabbergasted Tuesday when 70-year-old James Jones said he wanted to buy a new red Chevrolet Silverado and plunked down 16 coffee cans of coins. Salespeople spent 90 minutes counting the collection of dimes, quarters and dollar coins, which covered half the $16,000 price. PIR will host racers from throughout the region in Top Comp, SC, SG, SST and STK/SS classes, plus brackets for Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Bike/Show, High School and Juniors. This will be the first 1/8th mile Northwest National Open going for National Records. Friday, August 22 will be a day-long test and tune, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., followed by two days of racing for purse and National Open Series Points. Spectators are $10 per day. ![]() Benson Gets It Done Again In Nashville![]() Johnny Benson won his third straight NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race Saturday, passing Erik Darnell for the lead with less than three laps remaining in the Toyota Tundra 200 at Nashville Superspeedway. Bodine's Germain Racing Toyota was third, and Jack Sprague was fourth in the Kevin Harvick Inc. Chevrolet followed by KHI teammate Hornaday. ![]() Edwards gets first Nationwide win at MIS![]() If there's such a thing as home cooking at a NASCAR racetrack, Michigan International Speedway served as Jack Roush's kitchen for Saturday's Carfax 250. In a race that ended under caution because of Danny Efland's wreck on the white-flag lap, pole-sitter Carl Edwards gave Roush Fenway Racing its first Nationwide Series victory at the 2-mile track since 1998 (watch video). It was Ford's first Michigan win in the series since Ryan Newman took the checkered flag in 2001. ![]() Edwards wins at Michigan for fifth victory of season![]() As usual, Sunday's Sprint Cup race came down to a shootout between Kyle Busch and somebody else. The somebody else was Carl Edwards, who held off Busch on a restart with two laps remaining in the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway to claim his fifth Cup victory of the season and the 12th of his career. Having won the Nationwide Series race on Saturday, Edwards completed the weekend sweep and added 10 bonus points to his total for the Chase for the Sprint Cup. ![]() Towing Test This Weekend![]() No, I did not buy a huge race trailer, but it's off to Madras and the first long distance tow with the Project Tundra.
